ALI’s commitment to the environment

All of ALI’s programs are based on minimal impact programming; we also adhere to the ‘leave no trace’ ethics program. This is done with both our own staff who are passionate about preserving their playground and also with the students who come on our programs. In 2008 we will be trialing with a number of schools, to offset there carbon emissions when they come to the snow. After evaluating the success of this trial program ALI will be looking to make it apart of every program that we run for our partner schools in 2009. The carbon offsetting program will be done through tree planting, student education and community service projects with NPWS. ALI is in the process of pledging trees to the United Nations 1 billion trees program. Check it out for yourself and maybe your school could pledge to plant some trees www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign.
So far ALI has made the following changes to the way we do business
- Planted numerous native trees near the junction and our new oval
- Installed 100,000 litres of rainwater storage which now flushes our toilets
- Connected to bore water supplemented by our dam, for watering the oval
- Removed all wood heated fire places and replaced them with energy efficient gas heaters, reducing levels of CO2 generated.
- Redeveloped the junction to an energy efficient standard, which exceeds our basic compliance requirements. This will make it one of the most energy efficient buildings in the snowy mountains.
- Installed 38 water efficient shower heads across our site.
ALI remains committed to reducing our impact on the environment and continues to strive to become a carbon neutral organization.
When you come to ALI / Bungarra you can help us by:
- Turn off the lights when not in use
- Having short showers
- Recycling paper into green bins and bottles into yellow bins.
